The iLASIK™ procedure only takes minutes. It reshapes your cornea to correct the refractive imperfections in your eye (these imperfections are essentially the reason you are nearsighted, farsighted, etc.).

Here's what happens:

Before having the iLASIK procedure, there’s a critical evaluation step. Your physician will perform a variety of painless tests to gauge the health of your eyes, and document your personal eye characteristics. (During this process some people may find out they are not good candidates, but most healthy adults are good candidates.)

Step #1 - An Individual WaveScan® Map

As the first step in the iLASIK procedure, your physician will take a detailed picture of your eyes. This picture creates a 3-D map of each eye, what we call a customized WaveScan map, and this one-of-akind snapshot (every person’s eyes are unique) serves as the individual road map for your iLASIK procedure.

This mapping step is what enables you to get a truly personalised result, and is one of the valuable benefits that make the iLASIK procedure unique.

Step #2 - The IntraLase® Corneal Flap And The iLASIK Correction Blade-Free

The iLASIK procedure is revolutionised by the use of two computer-guided lasers. With the iLASIK procedure, the first, ultra-fast laser creates a thin corneal flap in a process called the IntraLase Method. This unique laser has been used in millions of vision correction procedures and it is the premier laser of its kind. This is another component that makes the iLASIK procedure so advanced, because some vision correction procedures use a blade to make this flap.

When the corneal flap is safely and precisely made, a second laser is used to make the actual correction to the cornea based on the exact specification/measurement of your eye(s). The laser is a “cool” laser so you won’t feel a thing. The entire correction only takes seconds per eye.

With the iLASIK procedure, this correction is ultra precise and truly personal. The laser works automatically and is driven by the computerised information that was gathered during your personal evaluation.

Step #3 - Postop And Follow-Up

With your laser correction complete, your physician will reposition the corneal flap and then your iLASIK procedure is complete. The entire procedure is typically completed in about 20 minutes. Many people sit up and notice dramatically better vision.

When you go home, you will be given some eye shields to prevent you from inadvertently bumping or rubbing your eyes. Then you will return to your physician for a series of follow-up appointments to ensure that everything is fine.
